Tas and Friends is a series of 140 readers designed to develop young students’ decoding skills.

Each teacher follows a sequence of introduction and practice of specific vowels and consonant combinations. The author in this series has used his proven sequence to introduce the vowels and consonant combinations. The author's sequence goes from the easy to hard skills and is essential for children to gain decoding skills in the shortest time frame.

The series is organized around 7 sets of books that cover consonants, short and long vowels, and blends and digraphs.
Key Concepts Covered
Consonants - all letters except the vowels b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z. Plus consonant blends ck, th, etc
Vowels - a, e, i, o, u.
Sight words - words that the children have to memorize. The word could be: a/ not decodable or b/ the word is too difficult to decode at the present level of learning. Sight words used in these readers cover the first 80 words of the Dolch list of commonly used words. Words such as the, and, see, come, what, are, make, down, help, etc.
Book Sets
Set 1 (CSVC): consonant, short vowel, consonant combinations, e.g. Tas, cat, mat, rat, etc.
Set 2 (CCSVC): consonant, consonant, short vowel, consonant combinations, e.g. trip, bird, long.
Set 3 (CLVC): consonant, long vowel, consonant combinations, e.g. gate, and sight words - by, does.
Set 4 (CVVC): consonant, vowel, vowel, consonant combinations, e.g. long vowel digraph - 'ai' such as main, grain. Sight words - could, food.
Set 5 (Skills Review & Mastery): A revision and mastery set of 20 readers. The number of words is doubled per page as students review each skill.
Set 6 (Mastery - 1 Initial and Final Blends): A mastery set revisiting key skills from Books 1-100, with increased text per page for extended practice.
Set 7 (Mastery - 2 Initial and Final Blends): A continuation of Set 6, reinforcing initial and final blends with added text for fluency and skill mastery.
